Good news for my annual trip to Boston:

Logan International Airport will get its first nonstop service to Portland, Oregon, in several years when Alaska Airlines begins a daily flight Sept. 9. Tickets went on sale this afternoon with promotional fares of $198 round trip, not counting taxes. Flights from Boston to Portland will leave at 5 p.m. and arrive in Portland at 8:20 p.m. Pacific time. Flights to Boston leave Portland at 7:45 a.m. and arrive at 4 p.m. Boston time. Alaska will fly Boeing 737-700s with 112 coach seats and 12 in first class. The only destination Alaska currently serves from Logan is Seattle, a daily round trip. It operates out of the US Airways side of Terminal B at Logan. Delta Air Lines Inc. offered direct Boston-Portland service in the late 1990s. Currently Delta and American offer same-plane, one-stop service from Boston to Portland, according to the Logan website's online timetable.

  • Portland to Boston: 7:45am to 4pm
  • Boston to Portland: 5pm to 8:20pm

But not in time for this year's trip. Bummer.
