ssd for merkli?
merkli only has PCI bus and PATA disk connects. I could buy a PCI to SATA card for $20 and install an SSD. Does the 111MB/sec bandwidth on the PCI bus and the 150MB/sec transfer rate on the PCI/SATA card make the SSD as slow as any old hard drive?
For the cheap drives I'll be buying, there isn't much difference between SSD and HDD in terms of throughput. It is all about latency, so I would probably see the full advantage of installing an SSD even in this old PATA computer.
