Apparently there is a bug filed for this weird behavior. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/212789
Here is my workaround.
root@weasel:/run/user/lightdm# ls -l ls: cannot access gvfs: Permission denied total 0 drwx------ 2 lightdm lightdm 60 Mar 23 16:12 dconf d????????? ? ? ? ? ? gvfs root@weasel:/run/user/lightdm# fusermount -u gvfs root@weasel:/run/user/lightdm# ls -l total 0 drwx------ 2 lightdm lightdm 60 Mar 23 16:12 dconf drwx------ 2 lightdm lightdm 40 Mar 23 16:12 gvfs
